Happy Birthday Uncle Wes

Photobucket

These birthday wishes are long overdue! Uncle Wes celebrated his birthday on August 2nd, but due to the flu bug that was passed around our house we were delayed in his song.

We love you Uncle Wes!!!

Drew's Turn

One week ago...

And today...

Drew woke up at 5 am yesterday morning with the flu. Thank goodness Pete hadn't left for Charleston yet because his bed/room was a gross mess - and who knows at what point in the day I would have gotten around to getting it all cleaned up? Disinfecting a room takes a while, you know?

While I am certain Drew caught this bug from Izzy, I am amazed at the differences in how their bodies handle and react to it. Izzy vomited violently for 12 hours, was lethargic for two days, and then had diarrhea for a good day. Drew puked once, wanted to eat/drink everything he could get his little hands on, and had diarrhea for 6 hours. He really hasn't missed a beat, but is clearly sick. He has carried a fever for two days, while Izzy never really got one. Go figure?

Puke Puke Go Away (to the tune of Rain Rain Go Away)

Our morning began with a trip to the doctor's office for Drew. Although he slept straight through last night, I thought we should play it safe and make sure his ears looked okay. Both my kids have only ever had one ear infection each so I'm not sure why when they wake up for a couple nights in a row I automatically go "ears". Drew wasn't happy about the visit, but did just fine. He weighed in a 34 lbs. 14 oz (should have had Izzy weighed) and his ears were fine. Just a summer cold.

We then ran to Target, where each kid got to pick a $5 movie, and then the grocery store. Izzy was being incredibly whiny - so much so that I almost took her movie away. I told her how disappointed I was in her attitude and she actually put her head down and wept. I felt bad, but remember thinking "gosh, I wonder if she is getting sick?" She was that out of sorts!

Once home the kids had lunch. Izzy ate 3 bites, maybe? At one point I noticed she was laying on the floor and thought it was odd, but just went about my routine. I then set the kids up with their new movies so I could wash the floor and get some phone calls made. I was actually on the phone when Izzy called crying from upstairs. I asked her what was wrong and she said she threw up. Boy did she EVER!

I called Pete and he joked that I must really want a new duvet cover :) Not only do we need a new cover (we have been looking for one already) but a new blanket (the one on there was Pottery Barn dry clean only) and a few new pillows. Thankfully it didn't get all the way through the mattress pad before I got it off. That just shows you how much she threw up!

Once we cleaned her up, she immediately fell asleep on the couch. She woke up 2 hours later only to be sick again. Back to the couch. Drink of water. Sick again. This went on another 2-3 times. The good news is that since the first episode we are now only hitting hardwood floors or toilet :)

I pray that Drew does not come down with the bug, or me! Pete is gone and I have advised him to stay away. That is fine by him...but being the super sweet daddy that he is, he offered to send Izzy a little something. I'm not being sarcastic, I think it is sweet. He gets so upset when his princess is not feeling well. Speaking of not feeling well...do you know that this is only the third time in her 4.5 years she has had a stomach bug?

All I know is it is going to be darn hard to keep a house clean and try and sell it if kids are puking round here! The silver lining is that my washing machine does have a "vomit" cycle ;)

*I PROMISE Uncle Wes that you will get your Happy Birthday video posted just as soon as the kids are back to their perky little selves.

Our Day

Today I had to take my car in to get a new bearing. Not sure what it does, but I needed a new one and today was the day. When I called to schedule on Friday I asked if they had the part in, and about how long the appointment would take. I was told that the part wasn't there, but they would be able to get it quickly and everything should be complete in 2 hours. Okay, perfect. You see, the place we go has many shops/restaurants within walking distance so the kids and I could easily kill some time. We had done it 3-4 times before.

Here is how our day played out:

Drew is on day 3, possibly 4, of night wakings so I call the doctor to schedule an appointment. Two nights ago I would have thought is might be his ears, but last night he requested me to sing him "The Pee Pee" song. I told him that I don't know "The Pee Pee" song, and he asked me if I could figure out the words? When I told him "no", he said that maybe his sister could tell him the words in the morning. Goon. So, I question whether or not he is sick or if he is just waking due to habit? The doctor's office said to bring him in at 1:00.

I dropped the car off at 10. We head to Chick-Fil-A for lunch.

11:30 we head to Bruster's for ice cream. It is closed.

11:35 we head to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream. Again, closed.

11:40 we go to McDonald's for ice cream. Of course it is open and not only do we get ice cream, but I got a free iced mocha for "free mocha Monday". My mocha was awful! The kids had fun though playing in the play yard (Delaney joined us) and eating ice cream.

12:10 I call to check on my car which should have been ready. Not ready and won't be ready until 2-2:30. Okay, so now I need to cancel Drew's appointment.

1:00 I call and reschedule Drew's appointment for 3:50. (The office was closed for lunch and didn't open til 1 or I would have called to cancel earlier). The kids and I check out the movie show times to see if we can see a movie. Ice Age doesn't start until 2:25 and although Izzy saw it with Pete on Saturday she said she would see it again.

1:15 we head to Ham's to get me lunch and kill time.

2:10 leave Ham's and call about car. The car part still isn't in so the kids and I decide to go to the movies.

2:15 call and cancel Drew's doctor's appointment - tell them I will call once I am actually IN my car to reschedule for later today, hopefully.

2:25 we see Ice Age (not in 3D). I loved it and Drew did great! This was the second movie he has seen in a theatre. I was worried it might be too scary for him, but honestly it was just loud - not so much scary. Up was "scarier" for Drew.

4:00 movie is over and my car is ready!

Once home we had dinner, took baths, read some books and were in bed by 7:45. ...it is now 9:20 and Drew is still talking up a storm in his room. Here's hoping the little booger sleeps through the night!

Buzz Cut

It took me until almost the end of summer to do it, but I finally got Drew's hair buzzed. I was afraid I wasn't going to like it, and with the wedding a couple weekends ago I wanted to wait. So, today I finally had it cut.

I love it! How handsome does he look?

Pool Pictures

Here are some shots from our day at the pool. Check out these bathing beauties.

...sometimes known as the Three Stooges :)

Immediately after I took this last picture Drew stood up and jumped into the water. I set the camera down and went to jump in after him. As I approached the water I noticed he had jumped out, spun around underwater and was swimming back towards the wall. I never even got in the water to fetch him. Amazing I tell ya. The boy has gills!

Here is Drew getting ready to go off the board. ...major series of shots below...

Scary, huh? And then look at what Drew does as soon as he hits the water. He spins around and swims AWAY from you. He certainly keeps us on our toes. Being at the pool these days is MUCH harder than it was at the beginning of the summer.

Izzy-n-Drew Diving Board & Slide

Here is a video clip of both Izzy and Drew going off the diving board at our pool.

And here they are going down the slide.

I think Drew will be swimming unassisted within the next two weeks. It is shocking how after just two days of going off the board and down the slide he is already becoming more comfortable in the water. He is full of confidence and surprisingly eager to "learn" to swim.
