Sniff Sniff

My Izzy girl has her first loose tooth :-(

Beginning yesterday I thought Izzy's bottom tooth looked a bit crooked? It wasn't until tonight that it dawned on me to wiggle it. Sure enough it is loose.

I can't tell you how sad this makes me. It makes me SO sad!

...but when I register her for kindergarten next week I might be REALLY sad. I mean really really sad (but the first day of kindergarten be prepared for a HUGE ball of crazy - big loud snot wiping boo hooing crazy - out of me).

I lost my first tooth at 5 so why wouldn't she do the same, right? I guess I still think of her as so little and only "big kids" lose teeth.

My baby girl is growing up and I just don't know if I should celebrate it or mourn it? Guess I will do a little of both.

I am willing to put money down that Izzy will be overly dramatic when it comes to this tooth actually coming out. There will be no pulling. My guess is she will let it dangle til it just falls. And if you know me then you know I HATE loose teeth! This whole tooth bit might put me over the edge.

Spring Break - Woo Hoo!

3 weeks ago was Spring Break round here for our kiddos. We planned a fun little vacay to Charleston and Myrtle Beach. The best part of the plan was we were only going to need to take one car because Pete had meetings in Charleston Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday which meant he would not need a car.

Photobucket

We left on Saturday and got down in time for a fun party at one of Pete's coworkers houses. If you are familiar with Daniel Island then you know what a beautiful place this is. For the rest of you picture "like being on a vacation everyday" type setting mixed with equal parts Truman Show. Gorgeous houses, beautiful yards, great pools and playgrounds...the type of place where people take golf carts to the store and when dropping the kids at school. Nice, huh :-) It was Bridge Run weekend in Charleston so lots of fun coworkers/friends were at the party. It was a really great beginning to our trip!

Sunday we did some outlet shopping - Pete forgot casual pants in his " home late Friday only to turn around and leave Saturday morning" packing transfer. No worries cause we had time to kill before we checked into our swanky downtown Charleston hotel. We would be staying at the hotel where all Pete's meetings would take place. It was a beautiful hotel - so nice that you really don't even want to be there with your kids. The rooms are fairly small and the bathrooms are the size of a closet. Perspective: Izzy was amazed by the lobby and all the sparkly lights...but thought our room didn't even have a bathroom because it was so small. As much as I dreaded the arrangements with the kids I was happy that I would not have to leave our more family friendly hotel in Mt. Pleasant to take Pete to and from the meetings.

The plan for the week was:
Monday: House hunting
Tuesday: Check out Drew's preschool and visit with a friend of mine
Wednesday: free day til Pete finished with meetings and then head to Myrtle Beach
Thursday/Friday: stay at a really fantastic Myrtle Beach hotel with Pete only going on one call over those 2 days (just so we could claim "work" and he could expense the hotel)

So Monday the kids and I got up really early to meet the realtor and see 8 houses. The kids did FANTASTIC and our realtor was super great! 3 of the houses we saw had a floor plan that would be conducive to our needs. Unfortunately they are quite expensive :-) Let me just say that viewing a house online can be very deceptive! I decided to "up" my house budget because I didn't like anything in my price range. So now I am hoping some of the houses that I do like will stay on the market and drop within my budget. Wishful thinking...yes. ...but in this market anything is possible!

After we left the realtor I took the kids to lunch. Drew said he wasn't hungry but I assumed it was because he was just tired. I ordered him lunch anyway and figured he could eat it back at the hotel. Izzy and I ate and Drew just kind of rested his head on the bench. We got back to the hotel, went up to our room to drop off some food and then decided we wanted to check out the cupcake shop down the street.

On the way to the cupcake shop Drew made a really loud noise and then told me he was gonna be sick. Sure enough he tossed his cookies all over the sidewalk in front of St. Andrew's Church. Not once, not twice, not three, but 6 times! As soon as he was done he said, "Okay Mama, now we can go get cupcakes."

Bad Mom Moment Coming Up:
... I continued on and took him (remember I am the same lady who let her daughter continue to see shows at Hollywood Studio even after we exited the line so she could throw up). I am a lock for Worst Mom of the Year 2010!

The cupcake place...and can I just say the chocolate chip cheesecake cupcake was well worth the price!

Drew had a couple licks of frosting and then back to the hotel we went. The poor kid continued to vomit and have diarrhea for the next 6 hours.

The poor kid was miserable! Izzy was a champ though! It can't be easy to be stuck on the 10 floor of a hotel in a gross smelling room for hours on end. She entertained herself so well. ...and had her first experience with room service.
Photobucket

I love how her little eye is peeking out through the hole

Room service and housekeeping became very familiar with our room that night. If the hotel hadn't been at capacity then we would have switched rooms. Our room was so gross that I encouraged Pete to try and crash with a co-worker - he has a very weak stomach. At one point I called down to room service and they answered the phone asking "...do you need some ginger ale and crackers?" Nope - just send me up a could glasses of wine!

Thankfully after a good night sleep the boy woke up feeling MUCH better!

However, Pete and I decided that the kids and I would head back to Greensboro rather than continue on with our plans. Even though it took Drew a week to get sick after Izzy, I was fearful that with such close quarters it could pass to Pete or I quite quickly. Thankfully we never got the bug!

Before the kids and I headed home on Tuesday, we made a quick trip to Battery Park.

Izzy's 5 Year Well Check Up

Better late then never, right? Due to Izzy breaking her leg at her 4th birthday party, we had to postpone her 4 year well visit. Because of that delay she wasn't able to have her 5 year well visit until now (it had to be at least one year plus a day after her last visit).

Onto her stats:
37.02 lbs. (up from 34 last year)
41.5 inches (up from 37.25 last year)
BMI 50% (down from 75% last year)

So...she has grown more then she has gained...hence her looking longer and leaner to us.

After her weight/height she was tested for depth perception
Photobucket
It was a card that she had to look at and see if any pictures "jumped" out at her.

She also did a hearing and vision test. Her hearing was perfect and her vision was fine as well...though her right eye is slightly stronger then the left.
Photobucket
Izzy was aware that she would be getting 5 shots and then not need anymore until age 11. Drew kept saying, "If Izzy does a good job can we go look at the toys aisle at Target? ...and maybe get a little toy?" What a little punk, no?
Photobucket

While we waited for the doctor we made some silly faces.
Photobucket

I also turned the camera loose and let the kids use it so they messed with the settings...that might explain some of the coloring of some of the photos.

So often I am asked, "Are they twins"...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
As they get older, and with Drew's new haircut, they are certainly looking more like twins.

After we got home Izzy asked me, "Mom, do I really not get shots again until I am 11 or were you just saying that to make me feel better?"
Photobucket
I was happy to tell her that I didn't make that little stat up, but she would not need anymore shots until she is 11!!!

*Oh, and I want to add that when the doctor came in the room and had Izzy take her clothes off down to her panties, Drew did the same. The doctor asked Drew why he was disrobing and he said, "I don't know? Cause Izzy is." Monkey see. Monkey do. ...and those two just like to be naked. I have pictures but figure that photobucket would take them down if I tried to post them.

Special Days with Dad

Last Thursday and Friday the kids had special "Dad" programs at school. We were fortunate because Pete was able to arrange his schedule to be in Greensboro - ain't no way he was missin it!

The past two weeks the kids worked very hard on special projects for Pete. I got daily updates from both of them...and they were super excited when they realized they were making some similar things.

While Izzy made Pete a tie, Drew insisted he made a "scarf" for Pete.

Both drew pictures of their daddy :-)

Here are Izzy and Pete on Thursday for "Dining with Dad".

Color

Kids are awesome, ...and so fantastically innocent! Izzy has two boys on her soccer team both named Caleb. One is black, the other is white. One could assume that Izzy might label them by color when speaking about them. But does she? No. When talking about our game tonight she referred to them as, "Caleb with the blond hair, and Caleb with the black hair".

I wonder how long kids "don't see color" so-to-speak?

Leader Day for Izzy

Today was Izzy's leader day at school. I am sure you can all guess what (or whom) she took for Show and Share.

Photobucket

Chloe couldn't have been more well behaved. She quickly snuggled up next to Izzy and allowed the kids to approach her (one at a time) for some puppy love. Izzy just grinned through the whole process, while Drew answered all the questions from her classmates.

Photobucket

Photobucket

As we were getting ready to leave I noticed Drew at the chalkboard.

Photobucket

I didn't pay much attention to him since he was behaving himself. Imagine my surprise when I saw this!

Photobucket

Can you tell what it says? It says DREW. I was really really impressed. Maybe lots of 3 year olds write their names, but it isn't something we have worked on with Drew. I recall about 3-4 months ago him wanting to write his name, but just being frustrated because he couldn't on his own. ...and to brag a bit more about Drew...Yesterday when Izzy was reading to me she pointed to a word and asked what it spelled. I told her to sound it out and Drew says, "It says 'pup' Izzy." By golly he was right. So I asked him about 5 more words and he also knew "play" and "cup".

Tractor Ride

We have super sweet neighbors who adore Izzy and Drew. They are surrogate grandparents since both our sets are out of state. They remember birthdays, holidays and "just because" occasions for our kids. How awesome is that? In fact, Barbara told me today that every so often Bob will be watching the kids run around our front yard (they live across the street) and get sad and talk about how much he will miss them when we move. They get such joy from watching our kids grow up.

Today Bob asked if he could take the kids for a ride on his new tractor.

On our way

Ready to roll

Simple Fun

The kids are LOVING playing in the creek out back. What a sad day it will be in a few short weeks when the humidity and bugs arrive. Lots of bugs!

For now life doesn't get much better then this - at least not at 3 and 5!
