Boys Will Be Boys

I am travelling down a road with Drew that I never travelled with Izzy. He is boy - ALL BOY!

This came out of his nose today. I put it next to a penny for size comparison. It isn't huge, but it also shouldn't come out of a child's nose.

Photobucket

What is it, you ask?

A piece of foam from a Halloween craft we did the other day at a party. It is a window cut-out from a spooky castle sticker. The door and windows pop out and apparently it ended up in his nose.

I was upstairs helping the delivery guys arrange our new bedroom furniture when Drew started crying and yelling for me from downstairs. I ran down and he told me he bumped his cheek. I kissed it and then asked him if it felt better. He was crying and nodding "yes" and I noticed something black coming out of his nose. My immediate thought was blood, but it was black, so I thought dried blood. This was all happening in very slow motion. Then whatever it was coming out of his nose just stopped - half in and half out. So, I did what any mother would and pulled it out of his nose.

Good lord child! Here is our conversation that followed.

Me: Drew, did you put this in your nose?
Drew: Yes.
Me: Did you put it in your nose or in your mouth?
Drew: In my NOSE! I put my fingers in my mouth (and then he shoved his fingers in his mouth).
Me: How many did you put in your nose? Did you put one, or two, or three?
Drew: just one in my nose.
Me: Were you playing with Izzy when you did this?
Drew: Izzy not put in her nose. Drew-drew put in HIS nose, silly!

Okay, so I think I got the story, but would need to verify this with his three year old sister.

Izzy verified what Drew told me, but she said he put more than one up there, but she thought he got them all out. So, now I guess I just wait and see if anymore come out? I am really not worried. Worse case he would have one lodged in his sinus cavity, but I doubt it. Only time will tell.

Boys. ...I do dig that he is all boy! Gross and all :)

Movie Night - part duex

I told you how Drew liked to repeat a specific part of The Cat in the Hat movie, right? Well here it is.

In case you don't know what he is saying, here it is from the movie. His "part" starts at 1:20.

Trunk or Treat

We took the kids "Trunk or Treating" at one of the local churches and the kids had a great time! Don't they look cute?

Photobucket
Sadly, that is the only picture I have of the two next to one another. I sure hope with all the photo ops coming up that I can get a decent one of them from the front.

There is this one, but it really doesn't count since you can't see their outfits.

Ever since our family portraits, Izzy is posing away. Here she is prior to leaving.

And then while at the festival she asked for her picture to be taken while sitting here.

Sorry, back to my story...A couple days ago, Izzy decided that she wanted to be a pirate for Halloween. I think I put the idea in her head by telling another little friend of hers who is a pirate that I loved her costume and someday I want to be a pirate. Anyway, I explained to Izzy that she already had a costume, and if she didn't want to wear it then that would be fine, but we would not be able to go trick or treating. She was upset but said she still wanted to go. She brought this up enough times over 36 hours that I was getting quite annoyed. Yes, I did pick her costume and maybe that wasn't right? So, the morning of Trunk or Treating Izzy comes to me with these sad eyes and says, "Mom, can I ask you something? Why didn't I get to pick my costume?" She got me. I told her she was right and I would look for a pirate costume for her but wasn't sure if I would find it. I also know Izzy and figured she would want to match Drew if we "ooohh'd and aaahhh'd" over him enough. I was right.

While Trunk or Treating I think every single person commented on how cute they looked. Granted Drew's costume is a bit fruity, but he just turned 2 and next year he can be some mean and nasty villain. This year he is my little Raggedy Andy. Standing alone he looks silly, but when the two are next to one another it is adorable!

Funny Drew story...
We explained to Drew that he needed to walk up to the car, hold out his bag and say "trick or treat" (we have been practicing at home). He will then get a treat and he should say, "Thank you. Happy Halloween." First car Drew watches Izzy and then goes in for a piece of candy himself. Great. Well, then Drew turns around to find a group of kids standing behind him with buckets full of candy. He just starts plucking candy out of the buckets and saying "thank you, thank you, thank you". The kids were too stunned to do anything. ...and of course all the adults just laughed.

Photobucket

After the kids got some candy we went inside to play games. Each game cost $.25 and were all geared for kids under 5. It was so much fun for Izzy. She did really really well and of course collected more candy as prizes. Drew didn't play any games, but I did buy him lots of $.25 candy as he kept snagging it out of the baskets. All in all we spend $7 and the money went to the youth mission trip.

Photobucket

8 of our tickets were used for a hayride. No pictures from that because I was wedged down between a couple barrels of hay with Drew on my lap to keep him from hanging over the side!

Here is a random picture that I took of Izzy. The shot itself isn't very good, but I just think it is just so her...

Once we got home, I stooped down to take the kids shoes off and felt a twinge in my left ankle. As the night went on, I was unable to move my toes, put pressure on my foot, etc. ...story for another day, but it turns out I tore a ligament. HUH? you ask? ...my thoughts exactly!

Movie Night

Summer Friday nights were spend with pizza and drinks poolside. Well, now that the temps have begun to turn cooler a new Friday night ritual was in order. So, we have decided on movie night. We kept that pizza, and I kept the drinking...and added a movie.

Drew loves an animated Dr. Seuss movie that we have and one of the previews on it is for "The Cat in The Hat". While Pete was away at the marathon I rented if for the kids not really sure that they would sit through it. Both kids really liked it and have been asking to see it again. Well, since Pete never saw it, that was my obvious choice.

I came home, got the kids dressed in comfy cozy pj's and got settled in with some popcorn.

Prior to getting in our pj's Drew thought he should read a couple books since we would not be reading any before bed.

I have a video of Drew repeating his favorite line of the movie that I will try and upload tomorrow. It is very very funny...and cute too!

I am just trying to see if this works. Drew's favorite part starts at 1:20. See it here

Pete told Izzy that this is the medal he got for finishing his race.

Izzy immediately asked, "Who's that girl you are running with?"

Happy Belated Birthday Grandma

This is WAY overdue, and for that I am sorry. Grandma's birthday was 10 days ago! I had the best of intentions of posting this on her actual birthday, but that day, as well as many others, came and went and I kept forgetting.

So, better late then never, right? Drew was a singing champ up until I actually tried to record the song. At that point he became more interested in the fact that I hit mute on the tv, and eating his raisins.

I did break out some new pj's for the occasion though.

Our Weekend

Gosh, I don't really don't have much to say? How odd that I am at a loss for words, huh?

Pete arrived home on Friday late afternoon, after being out of town again, only to have to leave Saturday morning to go to a trade show for part of the day. The good news was that on Saturday morning both kids slept late! I didn't get up until 8:30, Izzy got up at 9:15 and Drew 10. When Izzy realized Pete was gone again, she said, "but I thought you said Daddy would be home for two days!" Poor kid had missed her daddy something fierce! While Drew was still asleep Izzy made us some blueberry muffins. Then she finished a couple Halloween foam masks.

This witch mask was more fun to wear prior to being made...
Photobucket
Guess I should get a picture since she has finished it.

Like I said, Drew got up at 10, and then I made brunch for me and the kiddos. The witch's hat and pumpkin shaped cinnamon toast have now been joined by a ghost. Kids really are easily entertained. These crazy straws have "reappeared" and are a fun way for the kids to drink their milk.

Photobucket

Pete got home around 2ish and requested a nap. The poor guy has been travelling for nearly two weeks, not to mention the 26.2 mile run, so how could I say no? While he napped I took Izzy and Drew to the grocery store to buy some stuff to make "cookies on a stick". We were going over to Delaney's house for dinner and offered to bring dessert. When I offered to bring dessert I told Jen it wouldn't be anything to fancy because I would make it with Izzy. ...and this is what she came up with.

Photobucket

We had a great time at Delaney's house for dinner. The kids played SO well together that at times you didn't even know they were there. It was really out of the ordinary, but very much appreciated. Jen and I put down a bottle of wine mostly due to the fact that we weren't playing with kids or being needed to intervene...just sitting and talking. I think a good time was had by all! We probably overstayed our invite as we didn't even leave until 9!

Do you think the kids were tired when we got home?

Sunday morning Izzy woke up at 7:45 and so she and I made a Starbucks run. We got home and both boys were still sleeping. Being the good wife that I am, I *let* Pete sleep until after 9. I figured since I was going to leave him with the kids for a few hours during the afternoon to run errands it was the least I could do.

We had a nice leisurely morning before I left to run errands. I had hoped to buy a bedroom set but as I pulled up to the store it was closed! Hopefully it will still be available to purchase on Wednesday (the store is going out of business and has limited hours).

Once I got home the kids painted some fake pumpkins that I bought while out. Izzy thinks she wants to do polka-dots. So far we just have a pink pumpkin. Drew chose the blue paint to use...but he ate some so I had to take it away.

Out of Drew's mouth:
Pete was going to entertain the kids while also watching football, so to help him out I got out the puzzles. The puzzles are not kept out to do at anytime because then pieces get lost, as does the interest. So, I took the pieces out of an animal puzzle for Drew and then turned my attention to showing something to Izzy. When I turned back around Drew's puzzle was done. Amazed at the speed which is was completed I asked Pete if he helped Drew? Pete said no and Drew piped in, "It was easy, Mama!" The way which he said it had both Pete and I laughing. I don't know if I have ever heard him use the word easy?

Really that is about all we did. It was a laid back kind of weekend, with lots of daddy play time. When I came home today it had looked like a toy bomb went off...so I know the kids had fun and that is really all that matters!
